With the arrival of summer, we invite you to [re] visit Santa Cruz in the eyes of Antero de Quental, João de Barros and Kazuo Dan, three notable poets who, at different times, chose this seaside resort to spend their holidays, earning get inspired by the charms and beauty of the once small fishermen’s beach, inspired to compose admirable poetic texts.
Start by visiting, at Azenha de Santa Cruz, the exhibition alluding to these poets, getting to know some curiosities about their life and permanence in Santa Cruz.
After visiting the exhibition, head to Alto da Vela, as Antero de Quental and Kazuo Dan once did, to contemplate the extensive beach that borders the entire coast with its fine golden sands. Returning to the center of the village, walk along the promenade and climb the Júlio Vieira staircase towards the Antero de Quental esplanade, where you will come across the sculpture in honor of the poet and philosopher who, during his stay in Santa Cruz, in the summer of 1870, he composed some of his philosophical sonnets, among them Justitia mater, in which he mentions the sea that inspired him so much.
